Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 6, 2025
Overview
Murmer ("we", "us", "our") is a voice-to-text desktop application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Audio Data
Audio is captured locally on your device and sent to a third-party speech-to-text provider (Groq) for real-time transcription. We do not store, log, or retain your audio recordings. Once transcription is complete, the audio data is discarded.
Account Information
We use Clerk for authentication. When you create an account, Clerk collects your email address and basic profile information. Please refer to Clerk's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle your data.
Usage Data
We track word counts to enforce plan limits (e.g. 4,000 words per week on the Free plan). This data is stored in association with your account and does not include the content of your transcriptions.
Third-Party Services
We rely on the following third-party services to operate Murmer:
- Groq — speech-to-text transcription and AI formatting
- Clerk — authentication and user management
- Stripe — payment processing (for Pro plans)
Each provider operates under their own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
Data Security
All communication between the Murmer desktop app, our servers, and third-party providers is encrypted in transit using TLS. We follow industry-standard practices to protect your data.
Your Rights
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us. Upon deletion, all usage data tied to your account will be permanently removed.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email.
